Amazing Support

Followers of our blog-
An update - one of the rotation preceptors, Kristen, just secured a donation of numerous medical supplies from a physicians office that was closing.  It is amazing to see the generosity of others if you just ask.  I feel lucky to have so many amazing people in my life that have helped to make a difference with this rotation.  We met Sam and Glenda four years ago when we got married in Dominica and what made me come back to Dominica was largely their passion for involving the community in efforts to make the world better.  The positivity of the staff and community surrounding Jungle Bay Dominica is truly an amazing thing to experience.

Today, Target Pharmacy in Coralville, Iowa committed to donating numerous prescription ovals (bottles) to Dominica and will donate vials when the company switches to different bottle sizing.  Next time you go to the pharmacy (Target or otherwise), think of getting this medication in a tiny plastic bag.  Now, think of using this bag for several months.  I'm excited by the support of Target as well as Price Chopper pharmacy in helping to provide prescription vials.

We learned on Thursday mainly about health disparities around the world.  The student pharmacists posts reflected information that they learned about Dominica, a comparison country, and the United States.  We covered things like maternal mortality rates, childhood illness / nutrition, vaccination, etc.  The student pharmacists also watched a movie called Blue Gold which looks at the world water supply.  This relates less to Dominica but more to the access of conveniences.

Hope that you are well wherever in the world you are!  Till tomorrow....
